About

Welcome to Hanai Baking! My name is Kina and I recently became a stay-at-home-mom (truly the BEST job on the planet!). Family has always been my number one priority, which is why this baking blog is inspired by the people I love most - my WONDERFUL family and friends.

Come join me as I try my hand at baking and decorating! Be careful....it's going to get MESSY (I am like a human tornado in the kitchen)!

Our family!
A Blog Is Born

"Hanai" is a Hawaiian word that means "to adopt; to be close; to nourish; to sustain". Adopted from South Korea as a baby, I have always put a high value on the quality of relationships in my life. Although my path to self-discovery was a rocky one, God has always provided for me, surrounding me with the most unique, caring, and loving people - all of which I am proud to call family :0).

So naturally, I dedicate this blog to my family who has helped to nourish and sustain me; To my friends who are my true sisters; To my husband and son who love me better than anyone else could; And to Jesus who is my foundation and savior. We are one big OHANA!

My wonderful husband and me!

Kina's Baking Craze

I love baking a little too much. It's definitely an obsession! My sweet husband sometimes looks at me with this beautiful glazed look (hopefully cream cheese haha just kidding...but seriously, who doesn't like cream cheese?!) when I start babbling on about cake decorating and cupcakes and frosting recipes - using terms like fondant, dirty icing, piping, etc. He always entertains me with sweet "uh-huh's" and "oh that's awesome" - what a nice man! I knew I loved him! However, this man is smart and aside from being supportive - he is my head taster - not a bad job if you ask me :)

Although I talk the big talk, the funny thing is...I am really in the beginning stages of learning how to bake. It's been in the past 3 months that I've seriously started to compare recipes and make notes in hopes of creating the best tasting version. As for looks...that's all new to me so we'll see what happens when I try to decorate!
Side note: I strongly believe in humility but I have a confession to boast....
I'm REALLY good at making funfetti cake from the box- I've made AND eaten enough of that in my short lifetime to feed a small, or perhaps very large village. Luckily I've had my dad and some close friends who share this passion with me. It's a problem.
How stoked would I be if I could make it from scratch AND make it look adorable?! I think I shall add this to my bucket list. Don't be surprised if this turns out to be my first conquest people!

Anywhoo, I'm so excited to start this adventure with you! I have a hard time accepting, or even admitting failure (a sure gem of my personality :0) HA!, but I want you have an authentic account of this journey. With that said, let's make a toast....HERE'S TO BAKING!!
P.S. I also like wine...a lot - but this blog is about baking :0)
CoooOOOOkie Cutters! YAY!
